Issue of Concern: Client had specific exposure to a ‘multi policy situation’ which was to be effected by the grouping of polices taking effect from July 2006. Given that only selected exemptions were to be allowed for its overall operations there was a need to strategise the transition of policies into a new ‘policy structure’ and for there to be created a clear ongoing function to allocate and forecast premiums across the various activity streams of the organisation.
Timing: Activity commenced here in mid 2004 and is ongoing
Agreed Resolution: A complete assessment of the existing claims portfolio was undertaken initially, as well as the creation of a policy register and a detailed assessment of the history of the policy arrangements. A variety of related assignments were required around specific issue resolution, feasibility of self insurance as well as a premium analysis and management support function designed and established.
Outcomes: This approach allowed for a ‘new base’ to be set in terms of what needed to be in place for both the claims management function as well as the premium areas. The initial activity saw a specific team deployed into the organisation for several months to bring about the new base and also to guide its ongoing evolution in line with scheme changes occurring concurrent to this activity
Current Position post Resolution: This organisation has been able to stabilise its premium despite the negative impacts that grouping had upon it, by way of a range of initiatives to better control risk as well as focus upon injury management as a clear claims cost reduction mechanism
